I was thinking about some gouramis what I need to know will they do ok in the tank with my redtail shark and one of my angel fish and a couple of danios I had for cycling that I dont have the heart to take them back to the lfs I have one of those kissing fish in there right now but I am planning on taking that devil back to the stor asap he is a monster he bullies everything in my tank I thought about putting him in with my black shark to calm him down some what do you all think would happen if I done that with that monster kisser fish and what about the gouramis? in with the fish that I first told about ?

How big is your tank (gallons and dimensions)? If you are talking about a pink kissing gourami, which is the only "kissing" fish I know about, then you already have a gourami. What sort of gouramis were you looking to replace it with? Many gouramis get quite large, and some can be bullies. Angels actually can be quite aggressive, also, and get fairly big, like gouramis. Unless you are talking about dwarf gouramis or honey gouramis -- these stay pretty small.

You also have the red-tail to consider, not a small fish either. From what I have read, they are somewhat territorial, so you have to keep that in mind when selecting companion fish.

It seems to me that you might be able have gouramis, since -- other than the danios, which may or may not survive -- all of your fish are of similar size and are semi-aggressive, and will for the most part inhabit different levels. I'm a little concerned about the angel with the gouramis. If you can identify more specifically what it is you have (your tank) and what sort of gouramis you like, that would help people to give you better advice.

they will be going in my newly cycled 55 gallon tank I am slowly adding a fish a week i think i might have messed up on the names the last thing I want is more of them devil kissing fish those are mean.

Hi FKM&S

I think you will find that most of the regular sized Gouramis will act pretty much like your Kissing Gourami. I have 2 Orange Tiger Gouramis (can't remember the real name :*) ) and they are always trying to bully every other fish, one is missing part of his bottom lip from a previous fight, but my Cichlid Princess keeps them in line. The only ones we have kept that weren't bullies were the Dwarf Blues and Reds.

I have 2 dwarf flame, 1 blue, 1kissing, 2 larger gouramis can't remember their real name off hand in with 3 large angels with no problem. The only problem fsh I have is the red tail shark it chases everything ( He has to go).

i have 2 dwarf "blue" gouramis and had to seperate them after one lost an eye... old one eye as we like to call him is a total jerk to everone in his new tank where the other is peaceful and just chills so i dunno.....

I have 2 Pearl gouramis in my currant comunity tank, they get to be about 4-5" long and have never hurt any other fish in my aquarium, in my tank I have many peaceful fish like platies and tetra's and some rainbowfish. but in your type of setup, a semi-aggressive fish like a opaline gourami or a gold gourami would be perfect. these fish are not just beautiful, but will also will keep to themselves, mostly.

Hi, to start all Gouramis are bullies pretty much. They are labeled as Semi-agressive and when you put one in your tank and it shows it's territory colors it will start to claim parts of the tank. I have 4 gouramis (2 blue, 2 gold) and yes I have plenty of hiding places and haven't seen much bullying in my tank since adding them.

The only thing that my husband thinks is bullying is that they chase each other around the tank sometimes, I call it horseplaying.
