I Want Sand...

O.K. After much recomendation I am now thinking of getting sand for my future tank. Well I was wondering on what kind. I see sand everywhere but was thinking that its not safe having ANY sand in my tank. Well does anyone in the United States know where I can get some. But I need BIG name companies like

Wal-Mart, Home Depot, etc.

Regular playsand for sandboxes. Home Depot, you can get them for very cheap, like a couple bucks. Just wash it out nicely and it will be fine. If you plan on having plants, it's nice to push some root tabs into it.

I think I probably gave you this link in another thread but oh well here is a good link for picking out types of sand. I'd say lowe's walmart some hobby shops, a lfs, home depot. Just call around and ask if they have the sand your most interested in and ask how much it costs.

So playsand will do. Do they sell them in bags? I dont want to scoop up sand from a pile.

Yea, just make sure you clean it out VERY well. I had a cloudy tank for about a week until I got crystal clear water.

I just added playsand to my tank sunday. It looks really good!!

but make sure you clean out the sand really good. My tank just cleared up enough to see to the other side today.

My bag cost $3.46 at home depot.

I have sand in all my tanks except the 75 gallon and can't say that I see a difference between them as far as holding plants in place. The only one that doesn't stay rooted real well is anacharis which doesn't have a great root system.
