Ok...i want a really unique and odd fish to put in my 40 gallon. In it now is some barbs, a danio, a tetra, a few mollies, 2 yoyo loaches, 1 khuli loach, a few plecos. So, what oddballs could i put in this tank...
Plus, i have another tank and i want really bright fish in it, its a 44 gallon, with a drift wood catfish and a butterfly pleco....and help there.
Thanks

Bumblebee Gobies
Twig Catfish are also neat algae eaters
They're not THAT odd, but a little different and cute to watch.

first off...the last thing i need is another algea eater,
and ive looked at some gobys, i like them...now are the bumblebee ones freshwater? or brakish?

Bumble bee's are brackish, no doubt about it, they are also terrible fin nippers if not placed with suitable tankmates.Brackish puffers and chromides are good tankmates for BBs.
I cant think of any oddball fish that wont eat your other fish ATM, ill have a think and come back. :)

You say you have a "few" plecos? I assume you're aware they grow to 2.5 ft in length and require a huge tank each?

believe me i know a lot about my plecos. Not all plecos will get that huge. Right now i have a gibbiceps (yes...hes getting big) a royal (not growing too fast yet) a bristle nose (at full lenth about 3 inches) and a real small clown (also doesnt get big)

After thinking about it for a while the only oddball fish i have come up with that is FW non predatory and colourful are Peacock gobies/gudgeons (searching under gudgeons comes up with more results for gobies),they are colourful peaceful only grow to 2" and suit comunity tanks.

If you're going for oddballs, then you can't get better than a violet gobi (gobi dragon). Contrary to what a lot of lfs say, they are not predators. I have 2 and they live in peace and harmony in my community tank. Just make sure you get the freshwater kind, not the brackish. Great fish, real odd balls and easy to care for. All they need is a place to hide (pvc pipes and the like) and careful feeding. I have to drop food (with a turkey baster) in front of their noses coz otherwise they miss it as their eyesight is very very bad and by the time they find the food (by smell - I think) all the others have eaten it. In fact, most people lose their dragons through starvation :-(

I like unusual fish too. I don't know if my suggestion would be considered a true oddball--it's not on the list--but they would probably get along well with the fish you already have.

Have you considered getting a few blind cave fish?

They're very interesting fish and never fail to get the attention and comments from anyone who sees them.

:hyper: I WANT PEACOCK GOBIES DAD GUMMIT AND I CAN'T FIND ANY :hyper:

O.k. I'm done pitching a fit. I have been searching for these guys because they sound like great odd balls. As soon as I find some I am going to give them a try. Odd balls are great.

i would actually like to set up a freshwater puffer species tank in my 44 gallon...but i can only get real small puffers around here...and my drift wood cat would eat them right up...(his mouth is large enough for my small finger)...and ideas?
