I Want A Puffer!

You couldnt keep a puffer in a community tank anyway as they are brackish fish and 5g is too small. Ive never kept them myself as Ive never had a brackish tank but Im surer someone will be able to tell you the recommended size tank.

Hi,

You could keep a single dwarf puffer (Carinotetraodon travancoricus) in a 5 gallon, it would have to be the only occupant. They are completely fresh water and eat snails and other meaty foods.

As the man in the orthapedic shoes said...."I stand corrected"......I thought all puffers were brackish, Im glad you told me that coz I do like them.

As emma said, the dwarf puffer will be for you =)
Carinotetraodon travancoricus is the only puffer that can be kept in a 5G tank, and only keep 1 in there. To get more information, do a search on this forums on dwarf puffer and you should find more than enough info.

The Fish Index has a profile on them as well that can be found here:
Dwarf Puffer Profile

Heh, yeah *points to sig*

Not all puffers, far from it, there is many (so far discovered) completely fresh water species.

These can range from needing a simple 5 gallon tank, all the way up to 8 foot + tanks, so quite a big range there! But a lot of people make that mistake, so not to worry. ;)

The Dwarf Puffer (commonly referred to as a DP) is the only puffer which could live permanantly in your 5 gallon. The next freshwater puffer size up is the South American Puffer (commonly referred to as SAP) - collemesus assellus which can live in a 15 gallon tank.
