okays - my mum has agreed to let me upgrade to a mahhosive tank in the living room
but
now id more like to get her to agree to a second 2 foot tank say? in my room and have a go at marine -

i dont *need* to upgrade my tank.... i just wanted too - but id more like to try marine to be honest...(or have both - whatever lol)

questions that i have thats been bugging me and i cannot find the flipping answers on the net...........!!!!

water changes - i use normal water and add the salt mix (does it tell you on the box how much to put in????) and then add that to the tank???

this is the main thingi dont get.....

the tank shall hopefully go upstairs in my room - weight wise - will 2 foot by 18 inches by 1foot+ high be ok weight wise?? i know its not huge but stil.......

also for that size tank... can i just get away with.... filter/heater/do i need an air pump?/obv sand etc......

i know its not a massive tank to play with but its better than nothing...!!

comments/suggestions welcome..... :)

Hello

Depending if your keeping corals or just fish then , if its just fish tap water mix wit salt is fine! but if your keeping corals then RO water with salt is a must!!!

To see how much salt you need/have you buy a refractometer

Wouldnt worry about that size tank upstares i had a 6ft tank upstares plus sump and meny others!!!

thank you for replying :)

i was thinking corals but tbh to start with i shall keep to live rock and live sand.....

im unsure what fish to have really..... i think a nemo is amust and just something else if i have enough room.... if the tanks not big enough then fair enough lol

whats a refractometer and are they expensive???

if i can get a bigger tank id prefer seahorses to be honest...!

I love native australian seahorses! I looked a bit into them and they prefer taller tanks as opposed to wider and apparently definitely need a chiller. Or perhaps that's just because i'm in Australia and it gets pretty hot. (I'm only talking about australian seahorses in particular, which are considered "freshwater", personally i think they look heaps cooler than the average tropical species.)

A refractometer is a more accurate tool to measure the salinity level of your tank water, although often you get roughly the level of salinity that the box or bag of salt tells you, it's not always the case. Other people use a hydrometer which is cheaper but not all that accurate.

to know how much salt you need read the box. It will tell you how much water that box xan make then just divide it up into your tank size. Then check it once its all dissolved with a refractometor.

1KG of water weighs rought 1KG. So if you went 2'x18"x1' thats only 85KG of water. i weigh more than that
