I went to 5 of the LFS there. It's amazing how some of them trade.
My thoughts and reports... hope this helps someone.
Maidenhead Aquatics inside Wyevale Garden Centre had by far the best choice and healthiest fish. They have a few different types of shrimp too and I got 4 half grade Crystal Reds for a tenner who happily munching on moss balls right now. They had every type of rainbow fish imaginable, that is rare to have all the types available. Also had some plakat fighters, again quite a rare find in a LFS.
Wildwoods is obviously a king amongst men, but my visits there lately have felt disappointing. For if you are not a pleco or cichlid keeper, the general community vibe is waning a little. Had a few cherry shrimp for sale but nothing more exciting than that. Seems to be tanks and tanks of gourami, tetra and danio but nothing feels like a real find there. As I said, the pleco and cichlid section is impressive.
There is a shop called Marine behind the Springtime garden and gift centre. As you can imagine, their marine section is very very good. Their tropical section is extensive but standard and a few dead ones amongst them. I don't like to see that and it put me off buying [so luckily I didn't see anything I wanted].
The other 2 LFS I went into were Aquatic Warehouse right at the top by the bridge and Kingfisher. I couldn't believe how many dead fish were there. There was a male fighter in a guppy tank. The rooms are very small and the stock is hugely unexciting [probably because half of them are dead]. Guppies, mollies, platys. A few gourami, a few loaches... really lethargic fish, the rooms felt too hot, I put my finger in the water, to me it was too warm. I don't recommend either of these places.
There is also a LFS on the corner of the A10 as you turn into the road that leads to Crews Hill [depending on your direction] called Water World. I don't necessarily recommend this place because for one thing, the staff are drips with no knowledge, for another they were selling 'rainbow tail albino cories' yeah right, poor little guys and for another there were some tanks with dead fish. However, they sell Congo Tetra for £1.85 each... yes you heard right. I've had Congo's from there before and their health was good. When you think you can pay up to £7.50 per Congo in other LFS, it's worth saving some money in there on these fish. Not sure how they price them so low mind you.
Not sure if there's any other LFS worth mentioning in that area? There is another one, I can't remember where it is or what it's called but it's lame! It's a tiny little place over the back of somewhere [helpful I know!] and everything is covered in fluffy algae and they concentrate more on boggy creatures, like giant weird toads.
Still, it's a good few hours out if you're over that way. Even if you don't buy anything, it's quite an interesting afternoon for an enthusiast.
