I've noticed in the last couple of days one of my male bettas (one with the longest fins) has been acting strange. I noticed yesterday during a water change that on the tips of his fins there looks to be blood. He also appears to have fungus on his fins :S

He's started to lay on the bottom of his kritter keepers more often and he has been occasionally darting around the tank. I cant see any white spots on him.

I do 2 100% water changes a week. Does it sound like Septicemia? I've looked at pictures of when I first got him and now and he definitely didn't have these red blood spots on the ends of his fins.

I need help on how to go about treating him as I've never dealt with anything like this before. Yesterday I put in some fungus medication for the fungus I can see on his fins but maybe I should be treating with something different if he indeed has septicemia? :dunno:

Red tips to fins can mean septaceamia, yep. I've treated it before, I used an anti-internal bacteria med for it. Keep the water clean as you can too. Oh, and add a bit of salt.

Ok the meds I can get my hands on to treat this is JBL ektol fluid or JBL furanol but I'm not sure which one would be best to use??

Here's info about furanol: http://www.reptilica.de/shop/product_info....2d4a7e9e9174bdb

and info about the ektol fluid:

edit: I'm thinking of going with the ektol fluid because it says it treats secondary infections as well as my betta has fungus too :/ I wonder if he came to me with the septicemia? I've only had him for 1 1/2 months. If not then I'm not a very good fish mommy :-( It says they get it from poor water quality, overcrowding and rough handling :(

Hmm, I'd go with the Furanol. It will know out the bacteria quickly, but since you'll need an anti-fungal for the fungus, I'd go with the one that gets rid of the sepatceamia first.

I believe Neptune and Amphitrite had it when I got them. I treated it with Bettafix and it worked quite well.

Yah!! I just wanted to update everyone to let you know that my boy is all better now :kana: I've been treating him with JBL ektol fluid and it seems to of done the trick!!

I'm so relieved :D

The blood on the ends of the fin sounds like the beginnings of fin rot to me. I know I have a white finned fish and if I go longer then the time frame I normally do water changes in (like every 4 days and I go 5) the edges of his turns red like that..when I do the WC it is ok the next day.

But they sell a medicated food for this. I saw it at the LPS today matter o factly. It was for internal and external bacterial infections. Spetcemia was listed on the "treats" list. Not sure if you can get it in Sweden, but it's always worth a looksee.
