So my fish disappeared again for a day or two and I was looking at multiple videos on Peacock Gudgeon breeding... They all say that it takes around 2 days for some to come out of hiding after they have bred... My male is always doing the breeding dance to my female in hopes of getting babies and so the day after that they are in hiding... I think my gudgeons are breeding but then my male just stops guarding the eggs after a day or two and then he may eat them idk... Its weird, im very sure that they are breeding but then I dont see any fry. Could the male be eating them?

I would have thought your fish were still too young to be spawning
I was watching videos and a lot of the fish being bred were about an inch long or a but bigger...
Oooof...
But caviar is tasty, right?
I still dont know if they are eating them but if they are... Well that just sucks

Can you put up a link to the one-inch gudgeons spawning, I had a look couldn't find it. Interestingly all the videos I saw recommended pH around seven for these guys

I watched three videos but this was the one where I believe he said they were around and inch to an inch and a half

Yes hold on... Let me get it.

A month or two

Remember that the fish sold in stores are juveniles. They can take a while to reach maturity in your home aquarium. Look at people buying tiny silver dollars, clown loaches, common plecos etc while they're tiny little things, with no idea how huge they get.

It's entirely possible that your fish are not yet fully sexually mature, but are practicing spawning behaviours. Give them time and be patient.

Huh? What's wrong with Dan? I also watched vids from other sources to make sure I knew the main things they were saying

Nothing. I just like him and the fish he carries.
