I have come to an agreement with a guy for a jbl regulator / solenoid / ph controller.

I'll have to buy the CO2 cansiter, but my LFS sells them for around a fiver.

All used but in good nick, does £140 sound like a good deal to you?

Excellent deal.........i would go for it especially if you can get the cannister for a £5.

Did you ever get an email back from the guy in the states about the regulator?

I've got the whole JBL kit, start to finish. I think I paid over a hundred quid just for the pH controller alone. So I'd say you did pretty well mate.

Yeah, he wasn't sure about whether you could use a UK cylinder, but a bit of googling suggested that there is one standard size thread in the UK and another in the US, so it wouldn't work. SIF suggested looking for a convertor, but I think I'd feel more comfortable buying something which I KNOW will work, rather than having to bodge.

Not only that but the shipping time from the US was 6 - 8 weeks. I need to get this asap really. I'm winning the battle with the algae but my DIY CO2 just isn't stable enough.

EI has been something of an anticlimax so far... I'm having to do small water changes every couple of days to remove the algae that does come back and my tap water is high in Nitrates and Phosphate, so the solutions are sitting on the table unused so far.

RO filter is next on the list after the CO2 though :D

Fabulous news !
I saw it on eBay and am now also looking for a pH contoller.
Sounds like a good deal to me

The pressurised co2 will be a great investment and will work great with EI, im having problems with the Diy co2 as well......same thing not stable enough.

I still think the co2 is more important than the RO unit for your algae and for your setup in general but yeah if RO units are cheap go for it.

Problem i have is that none of the lfs over here carry the jbl refill cylinders so i have to do a pressurised DIY co2 setup, i can source a regulator no problem but i need to find the correct type of needle valve to go with it.......ow well i will keep looking.

Good luck with the co2, i thinks its a really good deal you got..............

Yep I completely agree that pressurised CO2 is the way forward. Even if I COULD get the supply constant, changing the mixes over is annoying, yeast smells horrible and while they are hidden away, I still have to catch glimpses of big spring water bottles full of milky white fermenting liquid.

With RO in mind though, I forced my girlfriend to come to the fish shop with me and she fell in love with the marine fish, so I'm gradually attempting to work her round to the idea of setting up a nano reef (as if a planted tank isn't enough work already! ), in which case it'll be essential anyway. If there's an opposite to multi-tank syndrome though, she has it, so I'll pick and RO filter up if it's going cheap, but I'm in no rush.

I got the "Top Gun" Milwaukee Regulator (w/solinoid) and a ph controller for $180US new.

Yes the price is very different over here. I had looked into buying the equipment from the US and buying the cylinder here, but as I said before, they just aren't compatible unfortunately.

how much dose it cost to fill a 500g refillable cylinder and how long will it last ?

Well judging from your reactions to the price of the canister... I think I'd better give them a call and confirm the price, but I am sure they had JBL 500g CO2 cylinders going for £5.99... :dunno:

I think what I remember seeing is £4.99 actually...

Unfortunately I obviously failed to notice that there should have been another 9 in there making it £49.99. Ah well I get paid on Friday.

Just wait around a bit - I'm sure you can pick up a second hand one. I saw one on eBay just the other day.

You're going to kick yourself if you pay £50 for something that you can pick up for less than half the price. That generally happens just after purchasing new product !

Actually this is the one I think I saw.

I think the guy selling the regulator etc has a couple of cylinders. Might cost a bit more to courier them, but according to his email he was planning on ebaying them at some point so I'll see what he has to say.
