I went to the LFS yesterday and they have a big tank with an Oscar and 2 really huge black catfish (don't know what variety). Also in there was a smaller gray catfish being careful to stay out of the way of the bigger fish. Behind a turned over decoration was the biggest Pleco I've ever seen. OMG, it was huge. I guess it was at least 18 inches long with a big sail fin on its back. The guy who worked there said he's seen them bigger.

The Oscar didn't seem aggressive to the big catfish in there, even when they bumped him/her coming over to the glass to see if we were there to feed them. I like to see what other people successfully keep together.

Common plec (a minute 7 inches) and a 7 inch frontosa. They  each other, swim around together after lights out.

I have 3 1" african cichlids in a 6ft tank with a lima shovelnose, other pimeolodus catfish, a BGK, a 8-9" Syno. Angelicus.... etc. I laugh every time i see them and wonder why they haven't yet been munched by the lima shovelnose, they must be just too quick! I plan to move them back out when they are a bit bigger, either back to the shop or to a friends cichlid tank.

Oh yes and i have 1 dwarf puffer left so i put it in my 15G community with 2 platies, lots of small oddball catfish, a goby and 3 skunk loaches.

Its funny what you can get away with if you are careful..
