Hi Folks,
First post in the coldwater section.
I went to visit a mate today who has recently moved into a new house.
She happened to say to her kids "are the fish still alive?" and I knew she hadn't kept them before so was interested. She took me into her garage where I found these 2 miraculously healthy looking specimens.
Turns out the bloke who had her house before kept 4 of these fish in what looks like about a 10G tank.2 had already died and 2 were left.
The water was putrid and green and when I unblocked the filter for her all this rancid white gunge came out.How the poor buggers were still alive I have no idea.
The bloke had apparently said he didn't want em,then he did and could she keep em for him for a bit, then he didn't etc..this has been going on for a month, during which time they have been fed bread,as per his instructions, but not cleaned out or anything..they were only in about 5 inches of water poor things.
My mate was glad for me to take them as she felt terrible but had no idea what to do with them or how to care for them.
Problem is,I already have 2 tropical tanks and no room for an upgrade for these fellas. At the moment they seem ok in clean filtered water with some food at last, but it won't be good for them long term.
They look like Shubunkins to me,but I'd like confirmation as I really need to find a home for them.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Also,if anyone wants to give them a good home,I'm in Upwell nr Downham market in Norfolk.
I'll post a "free to good home "thread as soon as I deffo know what they are.

Yeah that's what I thought.
We used to have some in our pond when I was a kid...not really ideal for a wee tank.
That fella must have been a plonker to have 4 in there,it's not much bigger than my betta tank!

They are shubunkin comets (i.e. a comet goldfish has been crossed with a shubunkin one, resulting in a comet with shubunkin type colouring), true shubunkin goldfish have more butterfly sort of shape tails.
But yeah, anyway, enough of the small details- these fish make good pond fish, and putting them in a pond is an easy way to give these fish the gallons they need (in an aquarium, at least 75 to 100gallons minimum for a trio or pair) as they can easily grow to over 1ft long. They are really gorgeous shubunkin comets at that too- if i lived nearer you, i'd totally take them off your hands if you are not looking to keep them in the long term.

Thanks for that.I was having a bit of trouble finding a match because the colour was like our shubunkins from years ago but they weren't quite right iykwim.
The cross with the comet is something I never considered but now makes perfect sense so thanks for that.
I wish you lived nearer too cos they really are stunning and after the squalour they've just escaped from they deserve a good home.I just can't give them the room they need. :(

Try the Buy/sell/swap section on the forum here, you may be able to find someone closer to where you live who's looking for some outdoor goldfish  .
