I want to try again. I posted before about my problem with my Cory
cats dying off.

None of my other fish have died or have even been sick they are all still doing awesome. For some reason I kill Cory cats and it makes me so sad. I think I will try and get 3 albinos this time. I have a planted tank with sand for them they will be in the tank with only a ram. My water is good 0 ammonia nitrites 0 nitrates 10. I'm afraid my tap water might have something in it that is killing them. I fed them well I would watch them eat.

Any tips ? I'm going to be very careful adding them to my water.

I have this water treatment that helps nutralize hard metal. I hope that helps. If they die this time around I give up.

May i ask what your water temp is at? I know Cory's can be very fussy about temperature. Especially in the higher ranges. Also Cory's are a no salt fish, could that be a possibility?

I'm by no means a Cory expert i don't even own one yet, but I've been doing as much reading as i can. I also hope that the extra water treatment works.

May I ask how long are they lasting and how about are they dying?

Hope things turn out :good:

Hi, sorry to hear about your trouble  , you're off to a good start witha sand substrate and a few plants :good: , cories seem to like temp to be 22 - 26 , NO salt in the water , if you use a good dechlorinator and regular water changes they should be ok, do you feed them catfish granules / sinkers ? I also give mine frozen bloodworm every few days , they love it, very active little fish , hope you have better luck this time.... :good:

if youre worried it could be your water, aclimatize them slowly.

float for specified time, add an amount f your water into their bag, leave for say 15 mins, do again, leave and repeat as many times you feel comfortable doing so

it will be a lengthy process, but it will help them with adjusting to the water.

Agree with Haych :good:

You can also do the drip method which i have started to do- takes ages but is worth it. :D Ideal speed is 1 drip/second or for more delicate species 1drip/2-3 seconds

I plan on doing the drip method. I think there must be something in my water that is effecting them because they are the only scaleless fish I have tried to keep. All my other fish have scales and are doing great.

I was keeping the temp at 75F = 23C . I don't add salt to my water. I have a lowish ph naturally it is 7.0.

I'm going to give them one more try keep the temp low add this extra water treatment and cross my fingers.

The last few I have tried lived for 2 week max. They would just get weak hang near the water surface then die. It was awful. I have never had this happen to any of my other fish. I kept 2 pepper corys in my first tank 13 years ago it was a 5 gal tank over stocked and they did fine. WHAT THE HECK YEARS LATER WITH MORE EXPERIENCE and I can't keep them alive :-( . They would eat crushed cichlid pellets that sink and shrimp sinking pellets.

maybe the fish were a bad batch. Im going to try one more time. But if it does not work this time I am over it. I will never have the joy of cory cats. :(

agree with haych, i lost 3 corys when i first got them, they were all on the small side, and the place i got them from imports all their fish,so stress on travelling then being put into small tanks at the lfs don't help.

Good luck with whatever you decide :good:

I got 3 small albinos and one good size bronze that is all they had. The big bronze was all alone so I took him. I got them from a store I have not gotten any Cory cats from yet. I have bought fish here before and was happy so I'm crossing my fingers. I'm getting use to my water slowly. I will be letting them go in a little bit still adding new water every few min. I put carbon back in my filter to in hopes that if there is something in the water this will help.

The temp is 72f they will be the only fish in the tank with a few plants and sand. It's 20 gal. I'm scared gosh I really hope this works.

Omg so I let them go in the tank and they are Very active . All over the place checking things out. The big bronze is crazy it looked like he was atacking the smaller one and it made me think that maybe he is a horny fish. Do corys get aggressive to eachother? Or is he just horny? The temp is 72f. I love Cory cats and really hope these guys make it. I'm looking for another bronze for my lone one.

There was a lonely small panda I wanted to get but I thought I would just kill it.

Good luck with them, :good:

I've not seen cories attack each other, then again i might be wrong,it could be the bronze wants to breed!?

Well today the bronze is swimming with the albinos and not harrassing them any more.

These little guys are so much fun I'm keeping it a Cory only tank. But if I find a pit bull pleco I will add him but that's it.

So far so good as far as health these guys are way more active then any of the others I tried to keep. I will post some photos soon. And you can tell me if I have peppered albinos or bronze albinos.
