 oh plzzz will someone please tell me they know wuts wrong with my guy! one of his gills looks infected or something! it's very puffy-like, and i think that may have been why he's so hard to wake up in the morning to feed! he's been very less active lately, and i didn't realize why until i saw his gill! please help!!! :-(

Sounds like gill flukes...

Gill flukes, small parasites that attack your bettas gills specifically, symptoms can range from reddened, irritated looking gill covers, to open reddened, irritated gill covers, they may try to rub thier infected area on plants.. other symptoms are clamped fins, bleeding from the gills, fungus in gills.. gill flukes are a nasty disgusting way to die... a secondary infection from this can be fungus completely eating away the gill cover and inside the gill, to treat gill flukes use Life Bearer, its best to o.d your fish a bit on this, and its non toxic so you can, if Life Bearer doesn't work, get some Parasite Clear from Jungle.. turn up water temps, and pray.. after your betta recovers treat him with a good fungicide.. like Fungus Clear, Fungus Elimantor, or the age old Eurethomyacin...

Hope that helps :/

the outside of his gill looks fine....it's just open more than it should be....like a half-flare....and i can't tell wut it is, but something is on the inside part of the gill. is there any way i can single it out as a parasite? specific things that might make you say "oh ya....definitely"? the inside is a silky-yellowish gunky lookin stuff.

:/

That sounds horrid, but I'm still only coming up with gill flukes, I'll search around and see what I can find...

Fungus????
It's a complete guess since I've never had to deal with any diseases ( :) ) but I thought I could *try* to help.

hope he gets better...

thank you all sooo very much....i hate seeing him like this....makes me feel so bad to look at him. should i put him in a new bowl, or is there any thing i can do that might help? salt? would that do ne thing? i haven't got money to buy much expensive things....if it is a fungus, how much does the cure cost? :-(

like I said I haven't had deal with anything like that so I don't really know. If you have book you should check in there. I have a book so I'll check for you and reply after look in it. You also might want to do a quick google or yahoo search.

Fungus
Sympyoms: White growths on the body that are fluffy in appearance. These groths can also be found on the fin areas.

Treatment: Spot treat with gentian violet or methylene blue; use aquarium fungicide in extreme cases.

Gill Parasites (Flukes)
Symptoms: Labored respiration, scratching, glazed eyes, and loss of motor control.

Treatment: Sterazin.

The above is some of what I have in my book. I have no idea what sterazin, gentian violet, etc. is so you'll have to ask someone else. If you haven't already you should post this in the Tropical Fish Emergencies forum. you might get more help there.

You're going to have to treat for a fungus and a secondary bacterial infection. Salt will help for now. BettaMax is wonderful stuff and it treats both bacterial and parasitic diseases.

Is he in a bowl or a tank right now? If he's in his normal bowl go ahead and do a large water change, pre-mix the replacement water with some salt so it melts. Then go pick up some BettaMax and mix it accordingly.

thanks. this is very helpful. i would've responded earlier....but my computer messed up and i couldn't get on. but ne way, i'm out to get another betta at petsmart today, and i'm going to take midnight with me with me. (midnight is the sick one....his pic is below) hopefully by seeing him personally, they can tell me directly wuts wrong. now, i noticed a brown-like stuff on his sides, and partially on his tail. how much salt? i don't want to over-salt him. :(

I tend to add a Good Pinch of Salt, Or A Pinch of Rock Salt if you have any.

HTH,

Itty/Wuv - May No for Sure how much to add

i bought some macronym two....or sumthin like that. i took my fish to the stoor and thats wut they said would probably help it. sheesh...i'm gonna have fun! it says 2 pills per 10 gallons....i have a 1 gallon sponge bob tank.

i'm too late...i put him back in his tank, and put in 1/4th of a pill in. but not too much later...maybe an hour or more, i looked in and he was dead. poor guy...i wish i had noticed his sickness earlier. :-(
