hello forum in need of some help soon :)

hi i juat wonderd whats the best thing to do my gravels loking bit unclean but i have just recently brought aloud of fish ive got about 14 fish in my 90 litre 2.6 ft tank and still getting slight reading on my ammonia test so was wondering weather to clean my gravel by completely removing it and washing it in a sink/shower should i try risking moving fish into buckett for half hour why i take all the gravel out and give it a good scrub or should i leave it as ive put some new fish in there today ?

please post

You could buy a siphon which is like a tube with a funnel at one end, which gets all the dirt out of the gravel, they're quite good, have a look at your LFS :good:

ive got one and there crap lol any advice on taking all the gravel out or do you think i should wait till fish have settled in

Wait.If you have ammonia in the tank it is only going to get worse if you disturb the gravel. You should have zero ammonia.

Try using the siphon again, they work very well normally. Perhaps you kink the pipe on the tank edge so reducing flow.

You could order one online? Maybe?

I wouldn't advise taking all the gravel out, it would upest the tank. The plants would be uprooted and the fish would get stressed out.

ive got one with a pump on the hose but i think its rubbish tbh i brought starter pack from pets at home maybe i should of got a better one

what are they called so i can search amazon for one or ebay

You can easily make one yourself, using a small coke bottle, with the base cut off, and a syphon tube attached to the neck.

I have one of these Gravel Cleaner, which I've been using for abour 15 years now.

One thing; how low are you keeping the loose end? If it's not a lot lower than the tank you won't get a good amount of suction :good:

I brought a air pump one and I need a one with good suction my other one just see to get clog up with stones lol

Yeah, I don't rate those air driven ones; just a normal fat pipe/thin pipe type work the best, IME.

Video on how to clean gravel:

This is an ad for the jbl cleaner but it applies to all of them
