I need to put it down but it is pregnant.I want to put it down to keep the suffering anymore than I have to. My question is should i put the fish down and not worry about the babies. Or should I try to save the babies. Someone please tell me what you all think I should do I know they isnt a chance to save the guppy it is headstanding already.

I had the same thing with a pegnant female, so I did the surgery and the babies were alive but slightly undeveloped. If they would have been fully developed, it would have worked, but as it was, they were onlly able to swim in circles, or not at all and still had the yolk sac. All my fish devoreed them, but yours might be fully developed. I think you gotta do it before the female is actualoly dead

Do you or anyone else think that they are a way to save the guppie????? I know that is a long shot, but I sure wish that I could. I hate this part of fish keeping I dont have the heart to kill the fish and I know that is what needs to be done. I guess it would be the best to go ahead and kill it, The next question is how? I have never done this before and I probally wont have the heart to. If I can figure out the easy way I will. Some one please tell me how to without hurting the fish anymore that it already is.

Feed it to your dog. Just kidding. Fill a sandwich baggie with a little bit of water, put fish in bag, put bag in freezer. The fish will just pass away. Painless. I hope.

don't freze it use clove oil in a bottle of water and shake it up so it goes clody and then put ur fish in it thats the painless way to go (it makes them sleepy and they don't wakeup).

how would you feel if i put u in a freezer cometcattle!

i would move it to a hospital tank and have it semi seated with clove oil mixture so it's not in so much pain and let it have babys but as soon as it does take them out and kill mother and move the babies to a small tank and clean the hospital tank, get the filter clean and running then put some dpopsy treatment in and water and conditioner and then the babies. and then feed them.

I guess I would rather be poisoned than frozen. Will hash oil work? THAT would be painless.

thank you tropjunkty and cometcattle I will go to the store and get some clove oil today. I have got three more guppies that is pregnant also and I swear thier scales are sticking out like pinecones. I dont understand how they got this my water readings in the tank that I have them in is all 0 except for nitrates and it is 10ppm. How could these fish get this is this something that they are born with.

one of them had thier babies a few minutes ago. So I went ahead and put her in some clove oil just a minute ago. That is one job that I sure dont think that I can do again.

Remember that guppies are prolific breeders so if you lose any babies, get a new guppy and start the process over again. :byebye: sorry to hear you had to let go of one though.

I let that fish stay in that clove oil for over two hours and it was still alive, so I took it back out of that stuff and put it back in the tank and believe it or not it is still alive. Its babies everyone of them died. But she is a fighter. I have her in real strong medicine that the vet gave me and she is showing some signs of improvement. The scales are not sticking out anymore.

hiya, sorry that u have poorly fishies!

from what u have sed, i dnt think she cud of had dropsy in the 1st place.

its important to remember that when a guppy is pregnant she will get a fat tummy (1 of the reasons its hard to tell if shes got dropsy while pregnant) but also that she will be very calm n restful when shes close to giving birth.

i wud just keep the pregnant 1s that u think cud have this still, each in a breeding net, so that they wont get pestered, then when they have had their babies, take them out, n put them in the hospital tank that has the medicine in it.

i hope u have more luck with ur babies in the future!
