Ok, as some of you now I lost four VTs in two weeks to something I have never seen before. Yesterday I lost a plakat to the same thing, and one more on the way out. They become lethargic, skinny, and lose finnage without rotting. Their fins just slowly go away. They continue to eat but have trouble swimming. The VT's looked like entirely different VTs, but had you seen them in a store they would seem normal, because I know what they look and act like, I could see the difference. The plakat went from being beefy to long and thin resembling a mouth brooder more so then a plakat.

I have no idea what this is, I have tried various medications with no change whatsoever. This is only happening with bettas, my community tanks are fine. Anyone have any ideas? I thought I was spreading whatever this was with a baster, because the VTs all lived in the living room and shared a baster. However the two plakats are in the fishroom.

No idea :/

It might be internal parasites, but fish normally get bigger.

Blood parsites might also be a cuase. Looking in my book, it states that listless behaviour, emaciation, and pop-eye are obvious symptoms. I don't think you necessarily have to have all three symptoms to have the parasites though.

States there's no advisable medication, though injecting praziquantel seems to have an effect on certain types of parasites...

Sorry I couldn't give you better info. :/

That sounds like something one of my ST's just died from. He just slowly wasted away over the last month, nothing I did seemed to help him. He finally just died the other day, completely skinny and not much fins. He also had trouble swimming for most of the time. None of my other fish have had it, just him. I have no clue what it was...I've been assuming it was something internal, as he ate most of the time, so I couldn't explain the emaciation other than something internal eating away at him. If you figure it out, let me know, hehe.

Well it's good to know I'm not the only one :/ Wish we had a name so we could treat. I am just so confused because they do act as though they have internal parasites, but mine continue to poop as normal  You're right though, they just waste away...

With your Linda have you noticed that they wouldn't appear sick to anyone but you untill the last couple days? -_-

Sorrel, I went through something similiar after having some fish shipped to me. I was at a loss on what to do. I tried several different things on 4 different fish. I was given a somewhat radical treatment to use on them and it worked when nothing else did. The fish that was in the latter stages got well, and 2 that was showing the first signs of it got better. I had already lost 4 fish. Since it is radical, and I don't want any comments about it, if you are interested email me at f250fisherman@charter.net
