I recently noticed my betta began to have a growth under its head. It is not on the outside it looks like the scales are being stretched. Now he just hangs out on the bottom of the tank and hardly moves. Does anybody know whats happening?? Is there anything i can do?!?

Possible bacterial infection if it's laying on the bottom -- but usually the fish would have sores, not a lump. I would treat with tetracycline. Good luck with your betta.

thanks for the advice

BTW where would i get tetracycline?? are there specialty stores or would a normal fish store have it??

You should be able to get it at any fish store. If you can't find it, you can also buy Maracyn-Two which also treats bacterial infections. I used it myself successfully when a fish had popeye.

If in the uk won't have excess to maracyn or tetracycline, what does the lump look like it it white with a red centre, or a white spot with a circling of red around it, with a rd spot in the middle, can you decribe it better.

Ooops, didn't know. There must be some equivalent meds against bacterial infections in the UK though. What do you use? And there isn't any tetracycline available? It's a pretty common antibiotic used for people too --- weird.
