I would like to fill a new tank with a cichlid 6-8 inches long. I am interested in only one so is there any that thrive on being in a tank without any brothers or sisters around? Thank you for any advice.

10 gallon. too small? What else will be a good fit? Nothing else but a pleco which has stopped growing at 3 inches. He has lived in my 10 gallon for about 5 months and after 2 weeks his growth stunted.

I wouldn't recommend any large cichlids for that tank...If you have at least a 20 gallon you could put one oscar or a green terror, but it's still be pretty crampy....If i were you i'd take out the pleco and get a 2 pair of any appisto species......

lol an oscar needs more than a 20. they get 12-16 inches. thats at least a 60 gal and a 75 for a pair. a GT averagely gets 10. when a fish is stunted its body stops growing but its organs dont. its gonna #### out its own guts. you cant put any large cichlid in a 10
