Well I can definitely say I am not in favor of bowls for bettas. I just lost one of my plakats today that has been under the weather for a while now. I know they do not live forever but you just hate loosing one. My other plakat has the blue tint in his eyes but still doesn't open up like I like him to. My two prized fish both live in tanks and are doing much better. Anyways I just thought I would share the loss of one of my babies. I brought home 5 or 6 bettas from the last betta show and I lost one almost immediately from fin rot. But the loss of one fish from all of that stressing is not bad. This plakat was the first fish I have lost in several months. For any other future betta owners here, bettas can live in bowls but live best in tanks in my experience.
