Only had him for 6 weeks, lapsed on the water changes because my partner had been in hospital having a major op, so i assume thats what killed him.

Gah. so annoyed with myself.

so now his tank is empty other than his pink convict girlfriend and some catfish.

I was thinking of starting something completely different... i'm gonna do a 100% water change and 10% there after for 6-8 weeks with just the current stock in there then maybe start something new.

I was thinking

4-6 Angels, Kribensis, tiger barbs shoal, RTBS.

Any suggestions?

I'm not interested in keeping anything big now.

It doesn't hurt to do 50% water per week to be honest, I wouldn't bother with 10% after your full water change...it will also make it easier for yourself in terms of literage per change and time if you use a syphon to take water out and put it back in the tank...I made my own from hozelock/homebase bits and a piece of garden hose...let me know if you want to know how, I can post pics and a description

I assume you don't want to have to upsize your tank this time around then? If you want to go small as you've listed I would go with Apisto or Bolivian Rams instead of Kribs personally...it just aint right having Kribs in there, they're African...just my personal opinion though

Kribensis are not rift lake/mbuna, they mix really well if south American fish from my experience, i have kept and bred them in the past in tanks with neons etc.

No i dont want to upsize again as i just sold a 6x2x2 :p

Nah no way, obviously you have son.

I mean you mix Centrals (hard water aggressive HRP Convict) with gentle Souths, but you think Kribensis is a no-no.

Bit of a double standard.

Not that i care, just your attitude has annoyed me.

I could say the same...you asked for opinions and I gave you mine

I trully am sorry you lost a fish and hope it doesn't happen again, Good luck with everything and I'll try not to post in the same thread as you from now on in the event I upset you

What exactly made you start getting sarcastic?

Did you think when I said you have it sussed I was being sarcastic? You stood by the krib choice having experienced them before and I gave up on my argument against them not having kept them before...I still wouldn't go for them personally and I will stand by my solitary HRP in main tank too (he's grown up in there from being a tiddler I picked out of a batch and is quite chilled...my port/black acara is the nastier one to be fair)

Good luck with it all anyway, I hope it works out

This is a shame it only seems like the other day he was in the shop.

I have around 20 young Kribs i cant really comment on them yet as its still early days tbh.

In did have quite a few Tiger Barbs which where nice and lively as they swim around in their shoal. I made a mistake and wondered how they would get on in my Bigger tank with my other Cichlids and lets just say the Oscars enjoyed them :(.

Good luck.

Thanks Darren.

my choice would be a different barb. I have always found tigers a bit boring...
I would go with some Golden barbs (or red line torpedo, if you've got the space), but make sure you keep their numbers up and keep an eye on the angels, as they might have a bit of a go.

What are your views on scapeing etc? is this going to be a heaving planted tank?

Would not mix Angelfish with tiger barbs who could reduce the fins of angelfish to nubs.
Convict and Kribensis may or may not get along depending on size and disposistion of your remaining convict, and size of kribs .
Depending on species of catfish,,Red Tailed black shark may or may not become aggressive, territorial, as it matures and catfish may or may not be able to live stress free.
Then again,,maybe they will all get along like ticks on a dog.
