How long is the average lifespan of an Amano shrimp? Because I have a big female who I've had in my 30 gall for well over 5 years ( it's been running 6 years) . Is this a normal lifespan? ( not that I'm complaining, she's big momma !!! ) I did hear shrimp are only supposed to live a couple of years.

I've had one of my Amanos for two years and it's going strong.

Smaller shrimp like cherries and CRS only seem to live for a year or rwo, but I've seen and heard of plenty older Amano shrimp, so I'm not surprised to hear 5 years.

I imagine people usually just kill them off before that with ammonia spikes or copper/fish med poisoning, so most people dont get them living that long.

Well *touch wood* I've never had a case of disease in my 30 gallon in all that time so I've never had to treat with any meds or anything which might harm them . Just done the weekly 50% water changes. Well that's pleasing to know anyway thanks ^_^
