Hey guys last friday one of my black mollies gave birth to what i asume where 16 babies because thats how many i have in the breder tank. Well anyway i got in a car accident weeks ago and tottal my car so i was unable to go get another tank. Tommorow tuesday i will be getting another tank for my babies. My questions are as follow: What kind of tank anf filtration should i get? Also someone told me to not add gravel to the babies tank because it was much easier to clean the water without the gravel. How many times a week or month should i chaged the water for the babies. Will i also need a heater? Right now im feeding them First Bites 3 to 4 times aday. Also what is the best possible way to move my babies from one tank to another. I just dont want to throw them in there. Oh and i was just reading about having sand in your tank. Is this sand for salt water fish or can it be use for tropical fish and if it can what kind and is it better than gravel or the same? Also i read somewhere that adding salt to a black mollies tank is good for them. Will these be good for my babies and if so what kind of salt if you can please include name and brand and all that stuff. Sorry if these is so many questions. I have never had babies in all of my years with fish so im overjoyed. Thanx For all your help!!

Firstly, I have always put a handful of gravel in a new tank with my baby swordtails, and I also add some old media from another tank to my filter to avoid new tank syndrome.
I would advise a daily or every other day water change of 10% as babies tend to be poop machines.
People advise sponge filters for babies, but I have always used a tank with an inbuilt filter.
You can use sand in any freshwater aquariums as well as marine. I have used playsand in the past.
Mollies can have salt.......although if you have any other fish....research whether its good for them or not.HTH. :D

Hi DeadlyAlliance,

I have a baby tank that I set up which is only 2.6 gallons. I would personally go for a larger one if I could but at present I can't afford a bigger one and I don't really have room (plus this one was given to me and thats the size it was)

Anyway it is an undergravel filter and it seems to be working well for the babies. However I do find the gravel difficult to clean in such a small tank without sucking up any tiny babies. Here is a record of how I set up the tank baby tank.

HTH

Enjoy your babies they are really cool.
