I Have Got Cacatuoides Fry

i have a trio of cacatuoides and 1 of the females has about 30 fry hanging around her. what do i do now? i have another female in the tank but the male is keeping her away for now. i have another tank set up next to it ready but when do i move them and how?? and they dont seem to be touching the baby food ive been putting in are they too small for food?? it is a well planted tank so maybe they are feeding off them???

Congratulations!

I would leave them for a couple of weeks and see how they get on then try and move them. Just use a net and get as many as you can. They will be feeding off of little bits of organic matter, spirulina and infusoria around the tank. I use really fine bbs for my fry.

powderd down variants of whatever you fed the parents usually works for me. also moving them is alot easier just syphoning them up a spare peice of air line hose into a container ready to put them all in there new home.

ok i hope they survive ive been waiting for ages for these to spawn. i might leave them with mum and dad till they get a bit bigger and can look after themselfs then il prob just net them or might syphon them??? oh i dont know!

ok i first counted 30 fry now i can only count prob 10? i have removed all other fish execpt the mother and cleaned the water reg and fed well? are these fry hiding or dead i have a fluval 2 plus could they have been sucked up but they havnt really roamed to that side of the tank

It's quite common mate, don't worry too much about it. The more they breed the better parents they become!

i had my cacatuoides breed for the first time last week too!, i only noticed a few fry coming from the cave, and in one week they have all gone now! i got a new tank ready for them next time though. did you notice the male not helping with the fry? or is it just mine being a lazy dad lol

no i have removed the dad before they went missing, its just the fry and the mother.
i do see the occasional one appear now and then do you think they are just hiding in all my moss/wood?

i've had the same situation recent;ly in my community tank, both females spawn and are very gd mums, but the fry disapear within a few days...probably eaten at night.

I noticed that the mum did sometimes move the fry around the tank, so you should add a sponge to the outside of the filter intake to lessen the suction a bit if they are still tiny.

also if you hose them up, use a small tube...i did it and the mum went up the hose too! (she was fine).

the male doesnt seem to care whats going on, he never evens botheres the females...just my angelfish. so i would take him out at the first signs of fry.
