 So i have decided (i think) to get the Fluval Roma 125. Its a really nice looking tank.
Even though i wont be getting it to the end of April, i'd like some input on what fish to get. I cant decide on whether i want a male Betta or not. If i get a Betta it restricts what other fish i can get...also, i dont know if a Betta would do well in a 125l tank or not?
Anyway, the fish i like are as follows....

Male Betta
Galaxy Rasbora
Red snakeskin Guppy
Cherry Barbs
Chequer Barbs
Yellow Honey Gourami
Gold Algae Eeater
Pleco of some kind
Sunset Platies
Angelfish
Neon Tetra
Rummynose Tetra
Any other colourful tetra

I would love a puffer fish one day, but will have to wait for that i think!

Anyway, what combinations of the above could i have in a 125l tank? Im hoping on having a planted tank, i need to do more research on that though!

Thanks in advance! :D

eta:added a couple extra

First off nice choice in tank, i have one it great :good: onto the stocking

Male Betta Will limit your stocking hugely, personally i'd get a smaller tank for one

Galaxy Rasbora Never kept them but you will need at least 6 if you go for these (will work with the Betta)

Red snakeskin Guppy Definate no if you go for the Betta/Angelfish, otherwise good just remember either all males or 2-3 females per male

Cherry Barbs again groups of atleast 6, i found them peaceful (might work with the Betta)

Chequer Barbs no experience so can't comment

Yellow Honey Gourami these guys are great if you have a group of them (4+) won't work with the Betta

Gold Algae Eeater personally ditch it, they get aggressive as the age and have been known to remove the slimecoating off fish

Pleco of some kind many to chose from, have a look at the pleco's under 8" topic :good: (works with Betta)

Sunset Platies lovely fish when kept in groups, as with the gups either all males or 2-3 females per male (should work with Betta as i have swords with mine)

Angelfish might eat some of the smaller tankmates, i'd advice getting them young if possible (no Betta)

Neon Tetra look great in large groups again at least 6 (would work with Betta)

Rummynose Tetra ^as above

Hope this helps :good:

Ps since your planting are you going with sand as substrate? Cories are another great option for the tank would work with a Betta too

Hi Broox, I have exactly the same tank, (Roma 125, see my log link below), and have to totally agree with lilfishie about the cories. I'll be getting some Panda Cories myself, but there are many others. Definately worth a bit of research.

Ok...so if i decided to maybe go for a smaller tank to start, say a 60L, i could have a Betta and some Galaxy Rasboro's....maybe a pleco and some cory's....some tetra's and the sunset platys...how small a tank could i have for a betta? I might get the 125l (without betta) and then once that one is set up/established, i might get a smaller tank for just a betta and maybe some tetra's...would that work?

I forgot to mention that i also really like the Bolivian Rams...can they go with any of the fish i listed above? Especially the Honey Gourami...

in a 60l i'd recommend

Betta
10 Galaxy Rasbora
Small Pleco OR 5 smaller Cory

with the 125l including a Betta i'd go

1 Betta
15 Galaxy Rasbora
15 Neons or Rummynose
Small pleco and 6-8 Cories

Possibly adding a few platies later on

Either would look very nice if planted :good:

I'm planning on doing a fishless cycle, need to read more about it but ive read a little bit on here.
