 I have reciently aquired some fiddler crabs for my 55g tank. Like I've been reading, people at the pet store don't seem to know what they're talking about. I've been researching them, and I am supposed to give them a little space to climb out of the water. I'm also supposed to add some salt to the water. I'm running a tropical freshwater community tank. I've also read that adding salt to the freshwater won't hurt anything if I don't add too much. Is this true? Because the tank is not really set up for a little bit of land, I was thinking of putting something under the water that they can climb into for dryness. Like a cave of some kind. Think that'll work? It'd be a shame to lose them, they work their asses off cleaning things up.

do u have a way for the crabs to get air?

if so how did u do this

i know u can stack rocks to the top but that will be crazy to do in a 29 gallon...

wat size tank do u have?
wat size tank do u have? did u have to put salt in ur tank?

I have a 55g and i'm debating what to do about their air retriet and the salt situation. The guy at Petco gave me a bunch of sales talk. I'm thinking of a cave underwater that they can go to with an air rock under it. Something that they can climb into. I have no idea what i'm gunna do about the salt.

how do u do a cave underwater... u mean a cave with no water?

how the hell u do that?

wat u mean an air bubble?

an air bubbler?

like put the bubbler in the cave?

Pretty much, to keep constant fresh air in there. I'm thinking something like a hollow log in there at a slight angle with the open end twords the bottom so it will trap air and they can climb up in there. Something like that, depending on what I can find. I'd better do it before they escape. They seem to have the ability to go anywhere they want.

lol im not putting crabs with my fish...bad idea

man i want like 2 really big nice fish...

2 bad i got a 29 gallon =(

WHEN I GET MY OWN PLACE

200 GALLON WE GO!!!

MAN MY UNCLE GOT A TANK BOUT THE SIZE OF A REFRIGERATOR

WITH NOTHING BUT ALGAE IN IT AND NO FISH

WAT A WASTE..!!!

fiddler crabs need to be able to get out of the water, they really need their own setup, they should have brackish water and without land they will die, they should really have a bank to get out on, and do fiddler things on. you will probably get more info if you post this in the invert section (in other pets), but the way you have them now is basically killing them.

You could maybe find a nice big bit of wood, lower your water level, and angle the wood so that part of it sticks out of the water?
