Wow when i saw this thraed i was just about tosuggest rams, take ur time to buy somes nice ones and u should be fine, and if u breed them, there worth a bit to sell on

Looks like kribs are the hardiest for my size of tank.

I would go for the kribs , they may be easier to sex . Ive heard rams can be unreliable parents , I've had kribs and they seem to care for the fry well ......until another clutch .[ that is If you want them to breed ] . Many plants and a few retreats will make them feel comfortable . Oh cockatoo cichlids[ apistos ] are also a nice choice., as long as you're still in the planning stage .
