I have a very Ill cichlid

But that isnt what is the matter with him it is starting to grow back. He is on his side I have had him in a hospital tank. The hospital tank has salt and maracyn in with him. I cant figure out what is wrong, this is the first time I have ever seen a fish do this type of thing. Let explain the tail being gone He was fighting with the bigger cichlids and they bit its tail half off. Oh and one more thing ammonia is 0 and nitrite is 0 the nitrate is 10 and the ph is 7.6. This fish has been head standing for a matter of days. I think it is just about to give up. They are no signs of illness other than the tail being gone. But that has new growth coming back and no signs of fungus either....

He is probably very stressed out. What size tank do you have them in. As far as I know they are very aggressive. I have no experience with them though, so I don't know if they are territorial.

Can you issolate the fish, if he is head standing he dosn't sound well at all.

Isolate and salt him. I had the same thing happen with a caeruleus of mine.....she just took control after she was better....like revenge.

The impression I got was that he is allready in a hospital tank....

What kind of fish?

Could he have suffered internal damage from the fighting perhaps?

yeh, it also might depend on the cichlid because some are tougher the others.

I took freshmike's advice and added salt and he seems to be improving some this morning. I don't know what happen to that fish it just took ill all at once on me. I really dont know the breed of cichlid I think it is mixed. Oh btw it is in a hospital tank already. Thanks for the advice everyone I will keep everyone posted on how the little fellow is doing...

Up date I found my little buddy dead while ago, Poor little thing fit so hard to live. This is the hard part of fish keeping it makes me want to give up the hobby.
