My white lace angel is the only fish in my 55 gallon that has tiny salt like dots right at the base of his tail where it connects to the body. I investigate my tank every once in a while very closely. Making sure to check each fish out, it's gills and the way it breathes and eats and swims, it's fins, coloring etc. I noticed last night the little spots. I have never had a problem with disease and overall have a very healthy pretty tank. I do my water changes every few weeks and check amonia, nitrite, etc. levels when I do and all is well. I don't really think that it has ick, but maybe it does? Maybe it is just how White Lace Angels tails look?

Can any Cichlid Crazers Help ME??

Definately sounds like ICH / ick do the white spots look like grains of salt? Buy some ick control (active ingredient malachite green) take out the carbon treat as per the instructions dosing less if you have tetras or loaches in the tank, raise the temperature to about 81oF to speed up the ick lifecycle once you have added the meds, treat for another 48 hours after symptoms have disappeared. Good luck :)

But what would have caused it? I thought fish only get ICK if they are stressed out or sick or something? This one is always okay and always has been. And will my other fish get it? Is it contagious?

Have you recently added any new fish as they may have been infected. Its highly contagious and will kill all your fish.

Perhaps it could be some form of adult colouration for this angel - I am not experienced with them and perhaps someone else could put me right. But if it looks like grains of salt then its probably ich, are the fish "flicking" themselves on decorations/gravel/ other fish - a sure sign of ick.

No I haven't done anything new or added any fish for months. I've had a couple of little Cory Cats die mysteriously this past month, but other than that all is well and all has been well for the life of the tank, six months now. None of my fish are scratching themselves and no others have any signs at all. Maybe it is a coloration thing, that's what I thought....or ICK of course.

So my other fish will catch it? Now, should I treat my tank even though I'm not sure?

Help me please!

What other fish do you have in the tank, do you have any tetras or loaches? If not then treating the tank can't really do much harm but if they do have whitespot then it'll get rid of it. Any chance you could get a picture of the fish in question? If they are not flicking on rocks and it looks like natural colouration (not grains of salt) then thats probably what it is, angel fish are not very susceptible to ich anyway.

Yes....I can definitley get a picture for you....I will try to post it this weekend!!!!!

Thanks for your help!!

Oh, and I have 2 Silver Dollars and I have heard that they are classified as "Tetras" is this true and would it hurt them!!!????? (see avatar ;o)

Hi Silver

A picture will help.

The tank mates do not seem to be a problem.

When you purchased the angle I guess it was labled as a "White lace angel". There is no true colour form with this name, so I guess that it has been misslabled, (often done to get interest in more common coloured fish).

When you post a pic I will try and give you the correct genetic colour name for it.

Actually, after you posted that it wasn't a "White Lace Angel" I tried researching it and came up with some photos that looked pretty close and they were of "Gold Angel Fish". So it must have been labeled wrong, she even wrote it down for me.
