Hi everyone! We just noticed today that Sally, one of my mollies, is either pregnant or I've been feeding her too much lately!

This is my first pregnancy and I'm not quite sure what to do! How much time do I have before I need to put her into a fry tank? How do you know when she's about to have her babies?

I'm so excited about having babies and want to hopefully keep a few for my tank.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Val

If you can see that she's pregnant, she's probably just a few days away from giving birth.

Mollies will have babies about once a month, and she will probably have more about a month after these even if you don't keep a male with her.

I don't know whether it would be good to put her in a fry tank now or not. I usually wait till mine give birth in my community tank and try to dip them out as soon as possible.

Even if you move her you will need to seperate her from the fry if you want to keep them all, and this may be tricky because she may release them over a period of several days.

I keep all my fry in tanks set up just for them. Right now I have about forty babies from a single sailfin mollie. My lfs lets me trade them in for credit on purchases.

A good rule of thumb to remember is a day or three before they drop, they will hide from you. They'll look for a good spot to drop the babies. When you see her starting to get a square belly and play hide and seek,it is pretty close to time. ;)
