Hi guys
I have a potential problem lurking just around the corner on 17/7/2008 united utilities are temporarily switching off the electricity in my street from 9.00 am --- 16.00 pm
My question is will my D&D 24g reef be ok with out any pumps running for this length of time

Sadly no. Water movement in a saltwater tank is imperative to keep the environment oxygenated. Without water movement, corals, fish, and inverts will suffocate and die in a matter of a couple hours. The tank will be fine without lighting, skimming, or heating (hot enough in the summer) but you need water movement. If you can get your hands on a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) you could run your Koralia off that. Another option would be a marine or car battery with an inverter. Mercifully a Koralia nano draws only watts of energy, so battery backup is possible. Any other systems (lighting/heater/skimmer) would require significant backup power for that duration and you'd be better off getting a generator for that.

Arrrr good idea skiflech. :thanks: I have 300w inverter which I plug into my cars 12v power socket, i use it to run my laptop, perhaps I could get a battery from a car breakers and wire the inverter to it then which pump should I run the Koralia nano or the chamber pump

The koralia nano. Much lower power consumption and you'll be less likely to drain the battery with it as a result.

Many thanks skifletch :good: I really appreciate all your help thanks again
