Some person on my city's "Swap and Shop" : http://cougar.norcomcable.ca/cgi-bin/class...xe?dbase=kenora has been trying to find a home for his 9 year old white husky, Friskey. He sounds really desperates. Well, today I saw another message by him, and he says he's going to put the dog down tommorow since nobody is taking her! I think this is terrible, anybody with a heart wouldn't be able to put his dog down. I'm sure this dog could find a loving home if he waited longer!!! I emailed him, telling him about our local humane society, about how they can help, and I gave him the address of the other shelter (forsakenfriends.com) too. He didn't say anything. I asked my parents if we could get her (the dogs a female) and then I would PROMISE I would find a home for her, and I PROMISED them that no matter what we wouldn't have to end up keeping her (because we already have a dog) but they said no.... :-( I don't know what to do.

I wonder if there are any husky rescue organizations in that area. Most breed-specific rescues will take in any dog or even mix of their breed, especially if the dog is good natured.

I sure hope he isn't destroyed :(

No offence, but you dont even know this person, you dont know the dog, and you dont know the situation. Your using very harsh words yet with really no reason, nor the knowledge of the situation.

Its a shame to see any animal destroyed, but i really dont think you should be using such offensive language.

9 years old is really quite old for that size / type of dog. I’d say 12 is about the average max however natural death can already occur due to old age at 9 years.

First of all you don’t know in what condition this dog is and what the circumstances of the dog & owner are. There could be a number of things “wrong” with the dog such as senility, cancer, incontinence, hip displacement etc. etc. the list goes on.....
And truth be told (as harsh and inconceivable as this may seem), a great many people simply do not want to look after an old pet when it reaches any of those stages. But they do not have the heart to have it put to sleep either and would rather try to rehome it for someone else to deal with the “problems” of old age.
I’m speculating here, but I’m trying to give you a broader picture.

It might be none of the above. She might be healthy and acting like a spring chicken but circumstances are such they the owner is unable to keep the dog.
Why he does not take it to a shelter I don’t know – perhaps because he thinks it will be put to sleep and he does not want that.
Or perhaps because the dog has behavioural problems and he knows they’ll put her sleep. Who knows.
He hasn’t given enough information for us to make and evaluated factual judgement. You did good in providing information to help him. It’s up to the owner to do what he thinks best.

I must be missing something but I didn't see offensive language? At least not here.. I'm not sure if you are talking about a message somewhere else? :dunno:

I have no idea what the situation with this dog is but no matter what I'd hate to see the dog put down and and I truly hope she can be saved.

EDIT: Unless you mean the post title.. while the words are strong and on the judgmental side, I didn't see it as "offensive language."

I guess your folks are pretty heartless people to...they said "NO"...

Don't judge people by what they type, a text message has no emotion and no way to show any, did you see the tears he cried as he typed that message can you see the pain in his heart knowing he may have to put his dog his friend to rest. Millions of animal are put down every year and I see no posts about that, but one guy has the courage to say what he is going to do and you hate him ??

Nice

Hi there

I am sorry to hear about this but no one hates MegTheFish, they were just pointing out that we do not kno wthe circumstances behind the sale, on another note I find it worring that this guy didnt just drop the dog at a local shelter - Strange character

Hope it all works out for the Dog

Sorry to hear about the dog Meg the Fish I am the same way. I dont know the reason for the lady putting the dog down. If it was my dog I would take it to the shelter or one of the most popular place in town and see if some one would take her before I would just put it down. I didnt see any harsh words words myself, If you ask me you were just concerned for the dog. I wish they were more people like you in the world.

Very well said GL. A short text cannot convey the true nature of a situation or emotions or potential distress the owner might have been in when posting the ad. There is far too little info to go on for us to make harsh judgement - or any for that matter.

Edit: and yes, I too find the word "hate" an extreme emotion and do not use the word lightly.
