Do I need a special setup to raise them (for food) or can I do it in a jar or something? Any special thing I need to do? I know when I was a kid and had sea monkeys they were just in a tiny plastic tank with no aeration or anything.
There is a hatchery for brine shrimps - most online stores sell them. Alternatively, you can also build them out of 2L coke bottles and a air pump. Either way, you will need to be willing to put up with some work/cleaning.
Thanks-I googled and am looking now. I wouldn't bother raising them myself but the LFS doesn't sell live food at all and I want to be able to give my fishies live stuff once in a while.
If you have constant spawns of fry in your tanks then it is worth hatching your own brine shrimps as this is one of the best source of food for the frys... I have constant supply of them and it makes difference...
Here's the thread I posted a while back (I didn't realize it got pinned!) about building your own hatchery. It might be useful if you intend to go for it.
