Hi everyone,
I was planning on getting a betta in a couple of weeks, but my mom and I went to Petco today, and I just fell in love with him. He is gorgeous! But the lady who worked their said to feed him pellets and that her bettas love them, but they are too big to fit in his mouth! So could anyone help out on what you feed your bettas, and what they absolutely LOVE to eat. I want to make him as happy as I can! I love him already! :D ;)

well you can crush them up, or also try feeding him some cooked smashed peas... just don't give him the outer covering of the pea. Also, if you want something smaller... you could try Betta Bites by HBH. They're smaller than pellets and have about the same nutrition.

Nutrient-packed, color-enhancing fish food for bettas. The micro-pellet diet improves betta health, growth, and coloration.

here's a link for it at pets.com

You could also try freeze dried foods like worms or brine shrimp.

Wow, he must itty bitty. You can try soaking the pellets in a bit of the tank water (like in a tiny bowl or cup) to make them softer and easier to swallow. You can also try frozen brine shrimp and/or frozen bloodworms (thaw them in warm water first) and try mincing them a bit to make them even smaller. Those things are good to give them on ocassion anyway. When they are bigger you don't have to chop them, just thaw and feed.

Maybe someone who has done some breeding will come on and tell you what they feed their fry.

I have a picky betta that don't like to eat pelets, and I found a color enhancing betta flake that she loves. But if he will take a pellet the other way, give him pellets, they are better for them.

I also give her dried blood worms and frozen shrimp and dried baby shrimp, she like all of those too. Those don't need to be regular diet tho, they aren't good for them.

I second the recommendation for Betta Bites. Every single one of my bettas have adored them, and the best part is, one bottle will practically do you for life! (well, not life, but it'll last you for at least a year or two; many more if you only have two/three fish). :D

Mlee, the last line in your sig cracked me up- I'm a hopeless sims addict myself :p
