Hi Guys,

I have two Crabs that have appeared from my new LR, can't get a good look at them, can't get to them (their caves are right in the middle of a very large piece of LR. Any ideas on how to catch them so I can ID them.

Thanks

Magnesium bath might do it. Search for magnesium. I'm sure Skifletch has mentioned it on a couple of occassions. :)

Yeah, try and get a bead on an ID first. If they are dangerous, you could consider a plastic trap.

Thanks for the advice guys, the problem is the little buggers only come out with lights out, as soon as I put the lights on or shine a torch on them they leg it super fast. Both about 1cm large, will keep trying with the torch so I can at least see what colour they are or any distinguishing marks. There is soo much life on these rocks, well impressed, a bit expensive at 14.00 per kilo, but IMO worth paying the extra. Will let you guys know if I can get a good look at them.

Cheers

Where did you get the rock from just out of interest?

Lol, glad this was in the marine section! If this wasnt, id have been thinking about other kinds of crabs lol...

Lol, yeah thankfully not the other type of crabs, AK I got the LR from a small place on the Isle Of Wight called Honneyhill aquatics. All the LR is in their show tank, you just pick the pieces you want. On the 4 Kilos I have had from them, I must have seen 15 bristleworms, 1cm - 6cm long, 2 crabs, loads of what look like little green stars, hundreds of small brittle stars, some small sea slug type creatures, loads of copods, tiny 1mm snails, about 20 small feather dusters and these are only the things I have seen, god knows what I haven't seen. I keep seeing little glimpses on critters in caves but they haven't come out yet.

Cheers

Very nice.

I'd keep an eye out on the sea slug though. If they pop their clogs they can create ammonia spikes. In small tanks, that can spell disaster very quickly. Also be careful about touching it. Its possible that its a nudibranch. These can contain toxins which can be quite dangerous.

No, not nudibranch's, these are about 5mm long, white and look pretty much like a garden slug, any idea?
