I Got Baby Swordtails Updated

One of my females had her babies during the night 2 nights ago. At first I thought all of them got eaten because I couldnt find any. Then I watched on get eaten I didnt know what it was at first. Then I spotted a few more. (man these things are tiny LOL) I am up to 12 that I have caught. I was chasing them for about 3.5 hours.

aw congrats on the fry, take it there your first, if you want to raise them then keep them seperate until there big enough not to fit in the mouth of the largest fish in the tank, they will be fine fed on finely crushed flake, any help then just ask

Yes it is my first time having fry. They are SOOO cute. My second pregnant swordtail hed her babies this afternoon. She is small so she only had 6. One of them died. I put er in the homemade breeder box i made last night because she was acting like the other one did the night she had her babies. I now have 17 baby swordtails. I put them in a 5 gallon tank. So far they are doing GREAT!! I still have a feeling that there are more in my main tank from the first set. I just havent found them yet. When and if I do i will put them in the fry tank to. I will post pictures once they get big enough to see LOL.

Another question
My male keeps swimming backwords into the females. It almost looks like he is stabing them with his sword. Is that normal?

never seen or heard of them doing that but i've only kept swords once so can't help you there, maybe its a mating thing

how did you make your breeder box (you said it was homemade)

I took a small bin with wholes in the sides and bottem, and a pair of pantyhoes. I stuck the bin all te way to the toes of the pantyhoes, I then cut off the panty hose about 4 inches above the top of the bin. That left about a 1 inch opening at the top in which you can feed your fish thru. I then got some fishing bobbers and attached them all around the box to the pantyhoes and that made it float. my male swordtail does the same thing it is a mating gesture he is trying to get her pregnant again once he gets it out of his systen he will come down

I thought that I read somewhere that was a mating thing. But when I was looking for it I couldnt find it. I am starting to think my other swordtail may be pregnant now. She is getting SO fat, But her belly isnt turning black yet like the other ones did when they were pregnant. If I look relly close and she is under the right lighting it almost looks like I can see the eggs in her belly. I am trying to wait it out and see. I guess is she is Pregnant if those babies make it I wont have to buy any more fish LOL. I still have 16 survivors from the other 2 that had babies. I only lost one so far.
