It's blurry, but at least you can see it. :/

Can you get a clearer side view?

It looks kind of like my Betta's. His is within his body mass under the skin. It was just on one side but is now in the other side too. It just showed up all of a sudden or else I didn't notice it. Does the tumor seem to be an external growth? You can't really tell by the photo but I do recognize the bump-factor. I've had to make some adjustments for mine like taking the water level way down as he's a real sinker(!) but he's still enjoying life and would like to be eating all the time.

is it a tumor or is his spine crooked? how long has he been like that?

i know people with bettas who have tumors like that, aside from teh ones who had growths on their head, they lived fairly normal lives. it sounds to me that yours acts perfectly healthy.

a better side picture would be nice

Yeah, I know the picture makes it look like his spine is crooked, but it's actually a tumor. I just noticed it a couple of days ago, but I'm sure it's something that has happened gradually. He has always had a little spot right where that tumor popped up that was darker than the rest of his scales.

I have tried a couple of times to get a side picture, but my camera is not that great, and Sakana starts dancing like a madman every time he sees me. It's so cute. :)

i've noticed something similar on the side of on of my bettas, bruce. (under his scales)
he seems to be acting completely normally though, i've assumed it is a tumour
and he's getting on a bit i think (he must have been a year and a bit when i got him in august last year)
so unless it gets larger and he looks like he's getting affected by it then i'll leave it
he's still eating like a pig and swimming fine
