I've been wanting to get one for a while now, and today I found the one for me! :D He's dark red, almost maroon, in color and has beautiful long fins and tail.

When I was looking at the new ones that my lfs just got in, I saw a bunch of droopy looking bettas--except for him. He was all flared out like he was trying to get my attention.

He's in his own home now and happy. He is the sole occupant of the top level of one of my 10 gallon cory tanks. For the last few hours he's been busy checking the place out. He even swam into the corys' cave  I don't think he knows what to make of all the space he has to swim around in. ;)

I love him already!

aw  he sounds sweet.......gotta wuv them bettas! he's now nicely spoiled in the ten! good luck with him......be careful u might become one of the millions infected with GGBS (gotta getta betta syndrom)

as canis said, watch out for ggbs. its a terrible addiction that many of us here are afflicted with. it can become quite difficult to control. soon you will have a house full of bettas. (which is not a bad thing at all. its kind of like with cory cats...... )

ggaaarrgghh...!!

Tell me about it....I've got GGBS now..I only got Huey last Friday and last night I had to go get a fry tank due to the large number accumulating in my 20g...but they are still in the breeding net...and the tank looks so bare...perhaps I could...no....errm...get...another betta....to go in the tank that I was going to put fry in....then get another fry tank...gaarrgghh!!!

Congratulations on the new addition to your fishy family, Inchworm!! You won't believe how much personality one tiny fish can have.

UPDATE:

My betta's name is "Ruby Prince." He has settled in nicely.....thinks he is a cory!

He eats whatever I give him: live bloodworms, freeze dried tubiflex, tropical fish flakes and I've even seen him picking at the spirulina discs. He's not a fussy eater at all!!! (thank goodness!)

When I look in the tank and don't see him right away, he is either up in the leaves of the amazon sword plant or hanging out in the cave all huddled up with the corys. That is sooooo cute! Sometimes I find him at the bottom of the tank, again with the corys, looking for stray bloodworms to pull out of the gravel.

I'm so glad I got him. :D

Inchworm, how many corys do you have with him and do you have any pictures? This sounds like something I would like to try with a small tank.

Thanks

yeah, how big of a tank is he in with the cory cats? no problems so far? hmmmm, betta and cory cats, what else do you need.

Thank you all for the many replies and your intrest in Ruby the cory/betta.

I wish I had some pictures to show you, but unfortunatly I have no camera. -_-

Ruby is in a 10 gallon tank with one big leafy amazon sword plant and about 25+ mixed cory cats. :hyper:

That is very overcrowded, but the situation is temporary and just for the last few days. The temperature dropped in one of my other tanks a few days ago causing my bronze corys to spawn. So all the corys that were in that tank are bunking in with Ruby and his crew until I get things sorted out and free up another 10 gallon tank for them. :S

Included in that number are about a half dozen young corys. These are perhaps 3/4 of an inch long. They are quite small, but too big for Ruby to eat so he treats them like the adults.

I am amazed and pleased at the peacefulness of this "fighting" fish. So far I have seen no sign of aggression whatsoever from him. But, he is active and swims freely around the tank. Sometimes he goes to the top for air and blows a bubble or two, but he does not make anything that looks at all like a nest. Also, he stretches his fins, on occasion, but I don't think what he does is really flareing.

I am so happy that I have this fish! So far, corys and a betta looks like the perfect combination.
