Well, I'm back from Europe (I had an awesome time) and my tank finished cycling while I was there. I got my dad to add the ammonia every day. When I got back, I did the big water change to reduce nitrates, adjusted the temperature to match the temp. in the 4 gallon, and got ready to move the fish.
I thought I only had 8 fry in the four gallon, but it turns out I had 13. I moved all the fry and the adults into the 10 gallon. It took me about an hour to catch them all, float them in a plastic container in the new tank, and release them.
They seemed to be doing fine, but I forgot to turn the heater on, and overnight the temperature dropped 8 degrees. It was at 78 last night, and now it's at 70. The adults are all fine, but I've found three dead fry, and some more are laying on the gravel, dying. I don't know what to do
I'm slowly raising the temperature.
To make matters worse, when I was feeding the fish I saw one of the fry get eaten by an adult. I thought the fry were too big to fit in the adults' mouths, because they are about half the length of the adults (although much skinnier), but I guess I was wrong. I keep replaying it over in my mind- it's awful. I know that when I go to feed my fish in the morning, I'll find even more fry dead.
