After buying the tetra test kits (sticks) and finding them not very useful, as they dont test for ammonia :( I have lost a couple of fish, due to ammonia in my tank.

I have now purchased the full kit with test tubes, and just tested it, and here as follows :~

Nitrates ~ 0
PH ~7
Ammonia~0

Im so happy wohoooooooooo hopefully no more dead fish, i can now keep a closer eye on the water, and i have some great Prime(red) to take the ammonia down, and the cycle ....

HI, it sounds like we both have the same kit - a Master Kit? Thats great you have 0 for ammonia and Nitrates, but are you testing for Nitrites too as they can get high even when the others are low and Nitrites will make the fish sick?

Yes Nitrites i believe were 0 too, i am going to check it all again in a couple of days, as i had a recent problem with Ammonia...so fingers crossed :)

as for the small black fish, if you post a pic

Oooooooh thanx i will take a picture yes, and maybe someone can identify them for me...they actually look very similar to a Mollie, so i dont know if they are or not, but they are very small, i have a Mollie already and she is about 4 times bigger than these little ones i have...

Thanx

Claire that's actually very odd that you have 0 for NitrAtes :S Unless you fish are not producing waste it's almost impossible :dunno: Are you sure ? What does your tapwater test at for NitrAtes ?
NitrAtes in "most" tanks are generally as low as 5 up to 60 and those levels are considered "safe" - though generally the lower your nitrAtes, the better.

NitrItes of course should always be zero to be safe.

I will have to re~test and re~post....

Im sure it was Nitrites that was 0
Ammonia 0
and PH 7

I will have another look at Nitrates...Thanx alot

this is very strange i bought a master test kit today, and didnt realise it doenst test for Nitrates?? :/ only Nitrites

It tests for everything else lol, i have used my tetra sticks, and the nitrate are ok, but still does this seem odd, that it isnt in a master kit?

Tetra Test Sticks are not acurate, you were wise to buy a proper testing kit.
On the pH side of things I tested with a Tetra Stick and then tested with my callibrated electronic pH tester and the readings were way different. Maybe that the Test Sticks are prone to degradation due to atmospheric conditions.

According to my tetra test strips, my Nitrate was 25 does this sound right? I hate those sticks, i find them rather useless, but my master kit didnt come with a Nitrate test, so im going to have to buy a seperate one tmrw
