Well heres the story, i dipped my hand into the tank to move a small apple snail i had just put in but to get to it i had to move some bogwood. Little did i realise on this piece of bog wood was my special fishey the L200 which i absolutely adore - shame they are as shy as they are its a beautiful colour. Anyway so i moved this piece of wood and it stung me! I could tell something had happend as i could feel pain in my finger but it wasnt till i had got my hand out of the tank realising there was no cut that i realised the pleco must have stung me with its spine when it got alarmed - cant blame it really. So then i went into panic mode thinking "oh god am i gonna end up in hospital?" a good 10 hours later the pain is gone and i feel normal.
So there we are a shock for the day lol. Just wondered if anyone else has had this happen to them or is it just me being stupid?

my dad had a 15-17 inch plec stab him in the rist and left a decent sized scar

it may have flared

Yeh i think it did - cant blame it though i dont like being disturbed while i sleep.

Wow i think mine maybe 3 inches at a push lol and i bet your dads one really hurt! Atleast i know im not gonna die from getting stung by them though lol

are you sure it was a sting? and not just the pectoral fins or something stabbing you?

I honestly dont know, i thought it was a sting, it felt like a bee sting and came up like one for a while. Hurt like mad for a few hours but i just dunno.

Your pleco must be really shy.

How can a pleco stab you with it's pectoral fins?

try it ;)

they are very sharp, and is why most catfish should be double bagged, so they cant split them, ive been stung by a cory and they can sting (some species)

Hi windhopper :)

Better keep an eye on it for a few days. I hope you cleaned it with peroxide or something similiar too. Any puncture wound received in an aquarium could become infected underneath while appearing small on the surface. It's just better to be safe than sorry.
