I am so excited

Hi,

I have waited for this day for soooo long! I finally got my bettas. I was only going to get one, but........ a friend brought me a ten gallon complete with hood for free today, so I just HAD to get two.

I went to a wonderful store today. It is called Pet Land. They have birds in open cages, a parrot who has a beautiful perch, he spends his time saying hello to everyone who passes by. And their fish..... WOW! I will never shop anywhere else. They have beautiful tanks, all well kept. Their fish are all healthy and swimming around. All of their oscars and big fish are labeled BIG TANKS ONLY. Their staff is knowledgeable, friendly and courteous. They had three people working in the fish section, and all of them were busy caring for the fish.

Their bettas were in 1/2 hex tanks, all with gravel in the bottom, the biggest I have ever seen bettas in at a store. They were all covered and every betta in their was swimming around and having a good time.

I got two EDIT upon closer inspection, I apparantly bought Veil Tails not Crown Tails I thought they looked different from the pictures I had seen. The store had them on the same shelf as CT's, but I liked these ones the best. End EDIT. One little guy is red and blue and the other is predominatly white with red on the body and red and blue in the fins. The red one is named Dopey, he got stuck in a plastic plant 5 minutes after we put him in his new 10G home. My white one is named Bob after my grandfather. I am in love Bob is happy swimming around in his new 5 gallon home on my desk. I have a lid for his tank, but I have to cut a hole for the heater, so right now he has a pair of nylons for a hood.

I tried to get pictures, but my batteries died . I am going to pick some up tomorrow. If I can get a good pic, I will post it.

Wow! I'm surprised that Petland was so good. We have 2 of them here (one is going out of business), and they are HORRIBLE. They have been closed a couple of times due to a large roach infestation, and both locations have the worst animals ever. Half of the fish are always dead, and their animals are always diseased. Needless to say, I'm VERY happy about the one closest to me going out of business. I've waited for this day my whole life.

It would be nice to see the one you went to since I've never seen a half way decent Petland. I still will never buy from them though. I don't want to encourage that chain store.

Hi,

I didn't realize the Petland was a chain store. I just went to their website. I am in Canada, perhaps that is why it is so well run. I also notice it is a franchise so perhaps an animal lover started this one. While I was there, all the sales people were cleaning out tanks, and having fun joking around with customers. I usually go to Big Al's, but they are out of the way for me. They also don't keep their bettas in bowls as big as Petlands. Sorry to hear about all the bad stores out there.
