@ombomb, as you know I've been looking to go pressurised at the same time (defeated by Bloozoo at the last attempt). Had a quick look at the american Ebay site last night and they are selling nice looking brand new double gauge set with bubble counter and shut-off solenoid for about $70 which is around £42! I know that you'd have to source a CO2 bottle but they can't be that expensive surely. The other issues would be shipping and the dreaded import duty but it seems so much cheaper that the ripoff prices we pay here!!

Hmmmm do you need to pay import tax if you are buying from an individual rather than a retailer? Not too hot on taxation laws. I did have a look around the net for CO2 regulators with the idea of just buying that, a CO2 bottle and a diffuser, but I do have a nagging doubt that if I buy the parts and assemble them, somehow it wouldn't be as reliable. I'll have a look on eBay.com though and see what they have to offer. The German site always seems to show up some good aquarium gear, but not speaking German is a bit of an issue!

***EDIT***

I noticed you're after an RO filter as well sif!

We all need to agree our own days for bidding on ebay to avoid bumping the price up on each other!

I've asked a couple of questions about shipping charges and I think that as long as packages are marked as "Gift" then you can get round the tax situation.

***EDIT FOLLOWING RESPONSES***

The set you are on about will apparently cots $35 (£20ish) for shipping, which really isn't bad (£62 for the regulator, no return valve and solenoid). I suppose the big question would be, what CO2 cylinders could that be used with.

I think the problem is guys that they wont fit on a co2 bottle in the UK they use a different standard as far as i know, this is something you would want to check before you contemplate buying.

I have sent the seller an email asking just that, I'll let you know when they respond, but if you CAN use it with a UK CO2 cylinder, could I buy any cylinder or would I have to buy one from Dennerle / JBL etc?

The Jbl regulator will only fit Jbl cylinders this i know for definate, they make it slightly oversize so it wont fit a regular co2 cylinder.

As far as i know 2 different standards operate in the UK for regular co2 cylinders, there is a British standard and there is an International standard, the exact dimensions i dont know.

I think the hobby suppliers of co2 equipment mainly only make the regulators to fit their own co2 cylinders, this is definatly the case for JBL im not certain about the others, but i suspect they are the same.

You must be able to use any Co2 cylinder (that will fit of course) probably the cheapest option would be to befriend a local pub landlord :hic: and find a supplier through them as they use loads of the stuff in their cellars. I hear paintballers also use a lot of it.

I would have no doubt that even if the threads are different on US cylinders an adaptor must be readily available.

I have had stuff sent under 'gift' from the US but you must get the seller to collude :shifty:

Currently being outbid by a few quid on every RO unit I try for - I must get the hang of this Ebay thing!!

After a bit of googling, it looks as though there are two different threads used on the cylinders in the UK and the USA. So unfortunately I think that two are incompatible. At the moment I am leaning towards the Dennerle system as it is rated for a larger aquarium than the JBL (250 instead of 200) giving me a bit more flexibility.
