I am 33, and got into this guppy hobby simply wanting to buy a fish tank for my two young nieces.

I had just a few guppies in a 10 gallon tank that someone gave me, but started to find myself looking at them more and more. After deciding that was not enough tank, I bought a 29 gallon tank for my nieces, and then came online to get more info for guppies.

Right away I seen the whole world of care taking of fish in general, I never knew or was told about cycling a tank, or even knew fish could get anything from bad water. I thought hey if our lakes suck big time and fish live in there, they can live in the clean tap water.

That was until I arrived here, seen a miilion things I was doign wrong. Thankfully the day I landeded here, the new 29 gallon yet didn't have the fish in it. The tank been running 48 hours without fish then I was gonna just add them.

I got right out and bought a No2,NH3/NH4,GH,KH,and PH test kit.
Learned cycling from here, did plenty of water changes and so on...

now I am addicted.

Just yesterday my guppy had fry, and in the livebearer post on here I linked up some videos of this happening.

I will be here more and more to learn more and more and also as I learn I can help when I know more.

Thanks for listening to the rant......

Hey Inker
I know exactly waht you mean.. its almost as addictive as um .... getting tattoos(i've got 2 and am getting three more) congratulations on becoming a great uncle to your neices guppies and I hope you eventually get your own tank up and running!!! :fish:

They live with me, so I kinda feel like I tanken over the tank anyway :)

They get all excited when new babies are born and they always after me to get them out....

The really odd thing about it all is, I had the 10 gallon for a year now, and have had fry born before, and in really poor water conditions, i changed the water maybe 2 times in a year, never tested nor cycled and i have fish still from that time.. But i know the importance now of cycling and frequent water changes...

And about the tattoo...... well they are very addictive, I also have 30 plus of my own and soon gonna get to work on making them full sleves and so on :)

who knows, maybe I will sketch one of my guppies and do a portrait on myself :p

No.. Now thats pushing it :p

Okay Well if you have a breeding net you can just break off a small piece of any plant and put it in the net with them but if you feel there is not enough room for all of this you could put the mommy and babies in a seperate place until shes done birthing

Welcome to the forum Inker!!! I hope you have a good time and learn alot along the way!!! ;)
