I am considering a saltwater tank.

I will do a nano 21g or a 55g or75g tank.

Im tempted to very slowly and CAREFULLY build a 75g but the 12.99 a lbs for "good" live rock at my LFS is going to slow me down a bit... They have "bad" rock for 8.99/lbs...

I thought about getting 10lbs and then getting one fish after the tank is stable. Then VERY slowly building the tank over a period of 2-3 yrs (with corals, etc...)....Anyone feel this is a bad idea?

Sorry I posted elsewhere accidentally

Its a fine idea, although as youve noted, youll be res-tricted to low bio-load fish for a while that way, but it can deffinately be done.

You could use a large portion of the "bad" LR and place it as the base of your reef structure, placing the better, more expensive LR on top. This makes sense as many of the critters found on primium grade LR (Macro/photosynthetic organisms) would die if placed beneath other peaces.

Building up over a period of months/years is fine, just make sure the rock you get is fully cured, or have a facility to hold the rock for a short time whislt die-off occurs, so it wont pollute your tank.

There are other structures where you dont use the whole "wall of LR", instead creating bommies and caves, saving alot of $$$ mullah, reducing the amount of LR you need. Have a search here and on other net resources to find an aquascape you like!

Goodluck! :good:
