I am almost about to quit the hobby

if you're filter is abnormally noisy and defective, notify the manufacturer and perhaps they will replace it.
I bought the aquarium and all the equipment from a lady so I don't think they could give me a new one. Also I think it's just the fluvial c4 in general, I have 2 of them, one was new and the other one was older and I tried them both but both are as loud.

I think you can enjoy the planted aquarium. Do you know "Foo the Flowerhorn" on YouTube? He has some fun planted tanks. No filter. Betta. Lots of plants!

If the noise affects your sleeping, can you move the tank into another room?

Yes I know him! His videos are really relaxing! I also really like the cine scaper betta aquarium and also like I mentioned Aquascape AF, I think I can take ideas of each of them including Foo to create something that I like!

That would be hard to do but probably possible, there is only one place where I can move it but I don't spend time there. That could be a temporary solution

some filters like my old hob that i dont use (i use internal canister now) is very quiet and its water flowing sound is very soothing, actually helps me sleep.

Hi, as you read the title I am thinking about quiting fish keeping, I am exhausted of sleeping with a very noisy filter wich is the fluval c4 (do not ever buy that) and I would need to buy a new one to sleep in peace. This leads me to another problem, money, this hobby is very pricy and I just don't have enough money to buy a new filter and things in general (I also have other priorities). Lastly I find that big aquarium like the 55 gallon that I am talking about brings me more stress than relaxation because of a bunch of problems that I had with it and overall I think I prefer small aquarium because it's easier to take care of. Maybe instead I should get a 5-10 gallon with one betta, just something very simple. Have you ever experienced something similar to this, the same feeling? I am slowly losing my passion

Sorry to hear about your lost of job.
Your finance wellbeing is more important than your hobby and fish keeping is not cheap in your country.
By the way, did you check the Fluval C4 setup to ensure that it's being properly installed?
Usually, the noise comes from the intake tube or impeller that is not properly placed/connected to the filter chamber.
Also, you may need to clean the impeller after a while.

I agree with you. When you have too much work(higher maintainence) and stress, you will lose your interest with your hobby.
I know of someone who started to keep fish as a hobby but he ended up losing his interest after he worked for a fish store.
In the fish store, it's a tedious and labour intensive job as he had to do managed many fish tanks.
It's no longer fun when you have too much work to do.
And I fully agree that smaller tanks with fewer & smaller fish are more enjoyable.

I have some suggestions for you:
1)5 gallons tank : with a single Betta. (as mentioned by someone)
This is the easiest to maintain but you may get bored with just a single fish.
Also, take note that long and big fins Bettas tend to have fins rot which will create problem and stress for you.
Plakat Betta is the best.
Keep a single red Betta that has multicolours or Candy colours. I saw so many beautiful Bettas at our LFS recently.

2) 15 gallons tank: with shrimps + some small fish (eg. Chili Rasboras).
After keeping Bettas for a while, I felt bored to keep Bettas alone without other fish.
And I find that shrimps are more interesting than fish.
So, now I am keeping Fire Red, Super Blue and Yellow shrimps + 10 Chili Rasboras in a 15 gallons tank.
Shrimps behaviors are unique and more interesting than fish.
I can sit in front of my tank watching the shrimps whole day.
Shrimps have low bio-loads and you just need to change probably two buckets of water each week(about 50-60% of water or lower, once a week).

Try to have a simple aquascaping with 1-2 big driftwoods, some rocks plus some easy plants to care plants such as Java moss & Anacharis Elodea.
It will make your tank looks very natural and beautiful.

3) Lastly, a 20 gallons long tank.
With this option, you can have slightly bigger fish with a pair of Apistogramma as you centerpiece.
Probably 1 pair of Apistogramma Cacatuoides + 10 Espei Rasboras (Keep some hardy fish like Rasboras or some smaller Tetras species)

For quieter filter, you can try Internal filter.
But if you are keeping shrimps, you can try sponge filters or a small canister filter such as Shiruba XB-303.

What sort of noise is the filter making?
If it's the water splashing back into the tank, raise the water level in the aquarium so it doesn't splash.

If it's the motor, maybe it needs a clean or is missing an o-ring, washer, or rubber grommet.

Pretty sure Fluval owns AquaClear and their filters have a lifetime warranty. Don't tell them you bought it second hand.

An internal power filter wouldn't make any noise.

Have a few fish in the big tank and do a water change and gravel clean every few weeks. Have lots of plants in the tank and feed them whenever.

After covid ends, you will hopefully get another job and be able to develop an interest in it again. Until then, if you don't want the tank, put it in storage because you might get interested again in the future.

You should move the tank to another place, I have the same problem with the air pump noise in the fish room, it drives me crazy!

Internal filters are really quiet, especially the Aqueon QuietFlow.

Don't give up. On the Fluval C4, is the top rattling? Remove the top and see what it sounds like (I have glass fish weights on my Aquaclear tops to stop the rattle).
I wouldn't downsize, but that's just me. You might find some value in The Very Best Aquarium Filter.
In any case, I'm with @Colin_T, don't give it away or sell the 55g cheap as you may regret it later. And smaller tanks may seem like less work, but smaller tanks really don't change the effort much and less water can mean bigger problems quicker.

Thanks, I cleaned and checked each peices of the filter 3 times and I can't find what's wrong... I don't think I mentionned that I also have a 10 gallon wich I really like but it's in the dining room so I don't see it as much as the one in my bedroom. I would want to keep an aquarium in my bedroom because it's the place I spend most of my time in my house... It's stocked with 3 CRS and 10 ember tetras so I wouldn't really get bored with a single betta I think if I had another aquarium. I really like this aquarium because it is simple just like you mentionned, 1 big peice of malaysian driftwood (3 peices but looks like a big one) and it's heavily planted. I enjoy this one as much as my 55 gallon but the 55 gallons has more downside.

I will post a video with the sound, I don't know how to describe it, some days it's worst than others.

Where is the O ring supposed to be placed? I don't think I saw this...

I contacted fluval, I hope they will be willing to give me another one.

I could possibly ask for an internal filter for my birthday, I think they're not as expensive as canister filter. I will take a look at this.

I think there is a possibility that I get interested in this aquarium again, my interest in terms of aquarium have changed a lot so that may also be why I don't like it as much as before.

I have 2 pearl gourami, 11 corys and 10 hengeli rasboras, do you think that I need to make a lot of waterchange with this stocking? Wouldn't minerals build up?

Thank you
