Hydra Infestation?

Hey anyone know what these are? I found them in the tank this week. My sister told me they are hydras. Attached is a picture (I found on the web) of what they look like. They are mostly on the drift wood and the plastic plant, I removed both but there are still some left on the sides of my tank. Anyone know what cause them to grow and how to get rid of them without harming my finsh? Currently I have blood parrots and 2 pleco in the tank (2 bamboo plants in the tank). My parrots seem a little discolored, parts of their head seem transparent. I asked the guy at the fish store, and he told me that tiger barbs might eat them or use copper safe and treat it just like ick. I'm fearful my fish would eat the tiger barb so I went with the copper safe. Not too sure how long it will take for the Copper Safe to kick into affect (or even if it is actually working). Anyone have any idea how to get rid of these pest? Help will be greatly appreciated.

Do a search on hydra it should fetch something up, good luck, never had to deal with them before.

Your sister is correct, they are indeed Hydra.
For the 100% surefire cure you need to get hold of some
Flubendazole 5% powder
1/2 teaspoonful in 30 gallons
1/2g in 2.5 - 5 gallons
Kills the little buggers stone dead, watch them melt before your eyes.
Speaking from experience Flubendazole is completely safe for use at the correct dosage even in fry tanks. Infact it also cures a lot of other fish ailments.

Do you know which type of medication has the Flubendazone 5%? I asked to guy at the fish store for this but he told me it is only one of the ingredients. Do you know which company manufactures its?

You won't find Flubendazole in the pet store. Flubendazole is an intestinal worm killer, an anthelmintic or vermicidal drug that destroys or dispels parasitic roundworm and tapeworm and seems to be effective against this one kind of Cniderian. (Hydra)
I am living testament that it really does work with no ill effects on fish or plants.

Just thought I'd give an update on the use of it in my community tanks.
I really couldn't find out if this was harmful to shrimp in any way or not. So decided to take the plunge and find out.

I'm happy to report that they are all still 100% healthy and the medication had no adverse effects on them.

I wasn't even sure if any of my fish had internal parasites or not, but as one wild imported fish died recently due to emancipation, I decided to treat my tanks just in case.

So from my experience with the product in three different tanks, I can say that fish & shrimp are still looking absolutely fine
