I aquired this external filter a while ago. It works, but is quite noisy. Is it supposed to be noisy?
I didn't have it on very long, just long enough to see if it worked.

It needs a good clean, and new stuff inside it, and new pipes. Is it good enough for my 31 gal, and are the external heaters you can attach on it any good?

That heater is one of the best around IMO and there are others that will agree. I use it myself and it keeps a very stable temperature. Cant say much about the filter...

If you can get that external cleaned, paying particular attention to the impeller and the well it sits in, it should not be noisy. The canister will need to sit on the floor or in the cabinet below the tank in order to avoid having the impeller pump cavitate and make noise though. Pump cavitation sounds like you are pumping marbles.

Thanks. Does it have to be on the floor or can it be on a shelf with a non slip mat or something?
Where do I get new stuff for inside it? I am going to have to take pics of what's in it, as I have no idea what all the bits are!

If I can get it quiet, that will certainly save on some money! and I really like the idea of external heater too. Nothing messing up my tank
