N0body Of The Goat
Oddball and African riverine fish keeper
A LFS have had a group of gogeous little catfish in for several weeks now, ~5cm TL with a midline stripe and the odd black dot on their transparent flanks. Have scoured "planetcatfish" for a while yesterday, the top contender for their ID (store had them unlabelled) was this little bagrid member, in which case they are fully grown midwater schoolers.

They are so unique looking and I am severely tempted (thinking of creating a catfish only themed 620T tank, 62x39x50cm), but I am a little concerned about how these lovely fish might do long term in Southampton's gH 14, pH 8.2 water (given their soft "blackwater" pH ~5 wild habitat).
Tankmate thoughts...
Small Tanganyikan catfish, thought to be a Phyllonemus member (typus... In which case some company would be a very good idea, very shy fish at mo), but may be a member of Lophiopbagrus family... Needs hard water and already own.
My two Hypoptopoma, now thought to be "sp. 2" and not inexspectatum.
My current trio of Upside Down, S. nigriventris, definite plans to up their numbers to ~6 asap.
Then its probably a choice of one group of the following...
Possibly a group of Oxyropsis acutirostra?
Possibly a group of Corydoras sterbai?
Possibly some Corydoras hastatus?
Possibly Kryptopterus minor or similar Asian glass catfish?
Possibly Pareutropius buffei or similar African glass catfish? I suspect these may be too active for a small footprint tank.
Any other ideas?
