All the talk recently about growing edible plants in tanks has me wondering about dechlorinators and other additives. Since any chemical in the water is likely to get sucked into plant roots, we want to be careful what we put into our aquaponic tanks. I very rarely add anything to my tanks except clean water, but of course dechlorinator is the exception. What options are safe for humans?

And by the way, I have already ruled out the "let the bucket sit around for a while" method, because I'm neither tough enough nor diligent enough to keep up on my water changes with that method.

Good point, Pure Sodium Thiosulfate is considered safe and in fact used in aquaponics.

But it seems that the presence of additional ingredients like heavy metals removers, ammonia detoxifiers, these product should be used for ornamental aquariums only.
