Hello!
can I use squash for Driftwood? It seems to have less tannin than wood and also has natural caves
I have heard of coconut and I am wondering if this works too!
I will cut it up into smooth large pieces and maybe caves
The large ones are dried and atleast 3 yrs old and small are one year old

Interesting! Following

You know... I've never thought about this! I wonder the same now... Definitely want to see what others have to say about this!

Could we see photos of your pieces?

I will take some pictures tomorrow afternoon when the sun is out, but here are some refrences.
The big ones are the green ones pictured. when dried they look like the bottom picture
around 3-4 feet tall, when un-curled maybe even 5 ft long

yeah, i see no sources of this... maybe it rots in water?
but afaik, it is edible when fresh so if it works it is definitely safer than wood!

edit: nevermind, it won't rot in water definitely because we make water bottles with them

That's a pretty cool idea if it works! I hope it does!
Like you said though, it might rot away in the water fairly quick...

and I hope to get panda garra in the future, so they might even be able to take a little bite out of the insides!
I also edited the old post saying that they can store water, so it's probably not going to rot

That's so true! Duh lol... Guords can hold water so obviously they wouldn't really rot. And I even thought that as I read the title... The two were just not clicking together in my brain 😅

That's awesome! I really so hope it all works out! Good luck man!

I might start a new trend in aquariums if it works lol, but i need some confirmation by some driftwood experts...

@Byron (I believe he is very knowledgeable on things going into aquariums like wood...)

if it works, maybe you can start a whole market for this and sell them ;)
they also use gourds to make maracas/rattles
